Nan Edith Johnson is a film buff and a Sociologist interested in stigma. As she began going deaf, she lost the ability to hear the soundtrack in movie theaters or to follow the dialogue for TV shows. After bilateral cochlear implantation, she began reviewing film and TV shows featuring deaf or hard-of-hearing characters. She is shown with her Hearing Dog Gertie-Aster.
